hora fastidiándose mutuamente con toda la finura del mundo.

La familia está deseando que la visita se vaya, y la visita está
deseando irse; pero ambas se mantienen heroicamente en sus
puestos de honor, cumpliendo con la ley que las obliga a darse
mutuamente este mal rato.

Pero todo tiene su término, y aunque media hora de fastidio es un
siglo, la visita se levanta y todo el mundo se pone de pie. ¡Qué
solemnidad! Es una ceremonia que sería muy divertida si no fuese
tan larga.

In the meantime, the girls dress up the best that they can, and
at last, all family members stand one by one before the guests;
and the guests and the family face to face, sitting in a
semicircle in front of the sofa, spend a half hour getting on
each other's nerves with utmost delicacy.

The family wishes for the guests to leave, and the guests wish to
leave; but both parties remain heroically in their places of
honor, obeying the law that forces them to give this mistreatment
to one another.

But everything has an end, and even though half an hour of a
nuisance is a century, the guests stand up and everybody gets up
onto their feet. What a solemnity! It is a ceremony that would be
hilarious if it didn't last that long.
