Re: [Espanol-Ingles] American?

Here we call you "norteamericanos" or "estadounidenses"

I’d add “yanquis” (or Yankees) too, it’s so common name here for people from US.

Yes, I know the term shouldn’t be generalized for all you but indeed it’s. Similar thing happens with the term “Gallegos” applied here for all Spaniards.

Despite for me the name “American” should be used like Raúl said, I think the name’s matter is a minor subject and I don’t care about so much.

Thank you, Raul.
I realized that the term "american" could be applied to people from all
countries on both north and south america when I was in high school in the
1960s. But I've never known how citizens of the USofA should refer to
themselves.

We were taught about "Christopher Columbus" or Cristòbol Colòn in
elementary school and how he discovered the Caribbean islands which were
named America to honor Amerigo Vespucci, but we were also taught about Leif
Erickson's explorations which landed him in "Vinland", possibly Canada.

One of the most interesting, to me, courses I took in college was called
"Toltec, Pre-toltec, Pre-Incaico" and was a study of the evidences of
indigenous peoples of Central and South America before Columbus. It was
very tedious because it involved reading journals of the conquistadores and
early Franciscans as well as archaelogical studies.
