Dear colleagues,

we would like to announce that our website at http://www.zuerich-herbarien.unizh.ch/?l=e has recently been revised and expanded to present online our digitized herbarium collections. Currently, information on more than about 48’500 herbarium specimens from the combined herbaria of the University and ETH of Zürich (Z+ZT) and the herbarium of the Sukkulenten-Sammlung Zürich (ZSS) can be accessed through the internet.

These collections include:
- vascular plant type collections of Z+ZT (about 13‘000 specimens)
- parts of the New Caledonian collections at Z (about 4’500 specimens)
- bryological collections of the Paul Culmann herbarium at Z (about 10‘000 specimens)
- Almost 85% of all herbarium specimens housed at ZSS (about 21‘000 specimens)

Images for almost all digitized vascular plant specimens of Z+ZT are available in two size classes for online inspection and download. Specimens of ZSS will be photographed in early 2006 and will be presented as soon as they become available.

All specimens of Z+ZT and ZSS are also accessible through the online portals of BioCASE (http://search.biocase.org/gui) and GBIF (http://www.gbif.org).

The quality of information presented of our specimens is a very important aspect of our digitizing efforts. Therefore, we are very much interested in receiving corrections and additions of any of the specimen data presented online. Whenever you encounter misspellings or omissions please take advantage of our user-friendly online submission form that you can access by clicking the „submit correction“ button.
