Two Tenure-track Faculty Positions in Systematics and Evolution   Lista de mensajes

Dear Colleague,

The Department of Biological Sciences at The George Washington University invites applications for Two Faculty Positions in Systematics and Evolution with an appointment date starting in September 2009. The first is the Robert Griggs Professor, a tenure-track Assistant or Associate professorship in Phylogenetic Biogeography/Co-evolution. The second position is the Louis Weintraub Professor, a tenure-track Assistant or Associate professorship in Molecular Systematics. I am asking for your help in locating outstanding researchers to fill out these two faculty positions. For the Phylogenetic Biogeography/Co-evolution we seek a phylogeneticist who uses comparative data to study historical biogeography or interactions among species (for example, parasites and their hosts or herbivores and their host plants). For the Molecular Systematics position we search for a researcher that uses molecular data to address questions in phylogeny, systematics, and evolution.  For both positions we seek exceptional candidates whose teaching and research interests will expand and strengthen our Weintraub Program in Systematics and Evolution.
Located in Washington, D.C., the Department of Biological Sciences at The George Washington University offers outstanding opportunities for undergraduate and graduate education and research. Through the Weintraub Program, and jointly with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, we offer a unique and multidisciplinary academic environment for the study of biodiversity and evolutionary history (visit http://www.gwu.edu/~clade for additional information and http://www.gwu.edu/~biology for information about our department and its programs). The George Washington University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. The University Search Committee seeks to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biology or related field. Commitment to scholarly research as evidenced by publications in scholarly journals and scholarly works in progress. Research that uses comparative data to study historical biogeography or interactions among species (Phylogenetic Biogeography/Co-evolution) or research that uses molecular data to address questions in phylogeny, systematics, and evolution (Molecular Systematics). Candidates that wish to be considered at the associate level should have already achieved associate rank or have at least seven years of experience as a faculty member or museum curator.

Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral experience. Evidence of obtaining external research support or of submitting proposals for funding. Demonstrated teaching excellence as indicated by research presentations, teaching assessments or letters of reference.

Review of applications begins January 2, 2009 and will be ongoing until the position is filled.  Application Procedure:  Interested candidates should email a letter of application, indicating the position they are applying for, curriculum vitae, a statement of research and teaching interests, electronic copies of up to three publications, and have three letters of recommendation sent (Assistant Professor applicants) or provide a list of references (Associate Professor applicants) to:
