tenemos una nueva doctora cladista: Cecilia Kopuchian.  Se doctoró ayer, con
todos los honores.  Su tesis fue un análisis felatio-genético (perdón,
filogenético) de los pipis de la familia Hornerida, el ave nacional de la
Argentina.  Felicitaciones!

En cuanto al pedido de Sergio,

lo que necesitás es definirle kbhit y getch, que no existen en Linux (no son
ANSI, lo usan varios compiladores de Win).

Te copio lo que tengo yo de mi Linux.  Fijate que esto NO te va a permitir
correr en el background (que requiere más cambios).  La versión que yo tengo
en Linux sí corre en el background, pero es vieja (hace años que no la
recompilo), y todavía no buscaba tan eficientemente como ahora, por eso no
te la mando directamente.

Tengo una pregunta con respecto a N.D.M. Trabajo en plataforma Linux
(Kubuntu 7.10) pero al tratar de compilarlo parece que necesita
librerias que no he encontrado...

¿Alguien del grupo ha trabajado N.D.M en linux y sabe como poderlo
compilar o donde encontrar las librerias necesarias?

Hace un par de días salio el nuevo paper sobre pesado, que tiene
varias cosas bien interesantes para quienes defendemos la idea de
pesado, y plantea preguntas importantes para quienes defienden pesos
iguales.

Lo subí a la carpeta "archivos>Bibliografía" de la página del grupo,
pues por su tamaño lo bloquea el servidor de yahoo (solo se permiten
correos de un mega, justo lo que mide el paper :P), es

Tania,

Para que NDM (o TNT) funcionen en Vista, tienes que hacer lo
siguiente: Busca el ejecutable del programa (vndm.exe), haz clic
derecho, ve a propiedades, y a la pestaña que dice 'compatibilidad'.
Una vez ahí, marca la casilla que dice 'correr este programa en
compatibilidad con...' y selecciona 'Windows XP SP2'.

Esto debería bastar, ndm funciona sin problemas en Vista.

Como todos los años estamos buscando algún interesado para participar en la
Campaña Antártica de Invierno Junio 08- Marzo 09.
Las tareas que realizará estarán principalmente relacionadas con los proyectos
del área Ciencias del Mar que actualmente se están ejecutando en la Base Jubany
(Isla 25 de Mayo, Shetland del Sur).
Los requisitos para participar son:
- Técnicos, estudiantes avanzados de biología o Lic.
- Experiencia en trabajos de campo/laboratorio
- Poseer vinculo con algún organismo estatal (Universidad, Instituto de
investigaciones, etc)

A postdoctoral research fellowship is available through the Ecological
Genomics Institute (www.k-state.edu/ecogen) at Kansas State University
(K-State). Our interdisciplinary Institute seeks to understand responses of
organisms to their natural environment by combining functional genomic and
ecological/evolutionary approaches.  The postdoctoral fellow will have
access to excellent university resources including the Konza Prairie
Biological Station, a core Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) site
(www.climate.konza.ksu.edu), the K-State Gene Expression Facility
(www.k-state.edu/gene-exp), and infrastructure of the Division of Biology
and Departments of Entomology, Agronomy and Plant Pathology.  For additional

Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills,
demonstrate evidence of past research achievement, and have completed
requirements for a Ph.D. by the start date. This full-time position provides

Summer Training Opportunity for Graduate Students or Postdocs in Data
Curation and Informatics

The Phenoscape project (http://phenoscape.org) is a pioneering effort
in the use of ontologies to relate traditional character descriptions
from fish evolutionary studies to zebrafish genetics and mutant
phenotypes.

We have summer funding for graduate students and postdocs interested
in gaining expertise in informatics and the application of ontologies
to evolutionary, anatomical, developmental, and genetic data.
Opportunities are available to work with our personnel in data
curation using ontologies (at the Academy of Natural Sciences,
Philadelphia, or at the University of South Dakota) or in database
and application programming (at the National Evolutionary Synthesis
Center, http://nescent.org).

Stipends of $5,000 will be given to participating students to cover
travel, room and board for 12 weeks (a shorter term of 10 weeks is
possible). To apply, please provide the information below via email
(in Word or PDF format) to Dr. Paula Mabee (pmabee@...) before
March 15, 2008.  Funding decisions will be made by April 1.

Required information:
1. Cover sheet with your name, current status (grad or postdoc),
institutional affiliation and research supervisor, dates of proposed
exchange, and a summary (150 word maximum) describing the relevance
of the internship opportunity to your research.

2. A brief description (1 page maximum) of your current research, its
goals, and an indication of where you are in your research time
line.  Please provide some details of the type of training that you
already have experience with (e.g., morphology, paleontology,
molecular/developmental biology, informatics, computer science).

3. A curriculum vitae no longer than 2 pages listing educational
background (including relevant coursework), work experience,
publications, and presentations.

4. A letter of recommendation from your advisor, and the names and
contact information of two other references.

Reporting Requirement: Recipients will be expected to submit a 1-page
report describing the accomplishments and value of the training
within one month after the end of the internship.
