The Osa Sea Turtle Conservation Program’s mission is
to guarantee improvement in the overall health of endangered populations of
Olive Ridley, Pacific Green, and Leatherback sea turtles by integrating conservation,
research, and educational outreach. Every year the Program’s staff records data
from more than 4000 nesting events and help the turtles to face threats such as
poachers, domestic and native animals and habitat disturbance. For this
upcoming season the Osa Sea Turtle Conservation Program (
FIELD COORDINATOR
Duties:
The coordinator is the
person in charge to make sure that all of the methodologies that we use are
followed. All project sites are very remote and only visited by project
directors, thus a high degree of independence, responsibility and commitment is
expected from Coordinators.
The coordinator’s responsibilities are outlined below:
• To coordinate volunteer's training period once they arrive at the station.
• To prepare the schedule and to assign volunteer duties
• To verify that all of the proper equipment is prepared prior to each night
patrol
• To coordinate and oversee the volunteers’ work at the beach while they are
collecting and relocating eggs and data or releasing the hatchlings.
• To make sure the hatchery keeps clean and organized
• Every morning, to make sure that all of the data collected during the
previous night is transferred to the data sheets, and to ensure that it is
entered into the computer weekly.
• To make sure that the nest temperatures are recorded.
• To motivate the volunteers to do their work and follow the rules, and promote
a fun working atmosphere at the station
Requirements:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be a graduate or student in Biology. If no degree in Biology, must at
least have some field work experience
• Must have two recommendation letters from Professors, Employers, or anyone
able to support your skills
• Must have a Valid Driver’s License
• Must have good English and Spanish skills
• Must be able to work well with others
• Must be in good physical condition and be able to work in the tropical
climatic conditions (rain, humidity, insects)
• Must fill out and send the application form
• Must have a passion and determination to work with sea turtles

June –
December 2007
Benefits/Costs:
Housing and Food are covered while living at the
field station. No Transportation included
