Position Description:
I am looking for field assistants to collect behavioral data on a well
habituated population of wild capuchin monkeys that I have been studying in
Costa Rica since 1990. The primary focus of the project is the behavioral
strategies of adolescent monkeys, but assistants may collect data on a wide
range of complementary projects including playback experiments relating to
vocal communication and cognition, experiments about understanding of
predator-prey relations, personality assessments, and studies of the hormonal
underpinnings of behavior.

Qualifications/
Anyone can apply, but we prefer candidates with some course work in animal
behavior, some prior field experience, and some Spanish language skills. Some
of these requirements can be waived for candidates that are exceptionally well
qualified in other ways.
Must have medical insurance. Must be willing to work extremely hard, as our
schedule is grueling.
Salary/funding:
See below - no salary, but we cover essentially all of your expenses. Depending
on the grant funding, approximately $100/month is provided for incidental
expenses as well.
Support provided for internship/voluntee
Room and board are provided, and up to $1000 is provided for the plane fare,
contingent upon completion of the work agreed upon. You must provide your own
medical insurance and cover your own medical costs.
Term of Appointment:
minimum 1 year, start date flexible
Application Deadline:
rolling deadlines - apply about 2-3 months before you want to start. We plan to
run the project for the next several years.
Comments:
This internship provides extremely intensive training, and our trainees from
the first 16 years had 100% success in their graduate school applications (N=23
applicants to grad school).
