> The Oceanic Society is looking for a highly motivated and
> independent individual to serve as field coordinator/sea turtle
> biologist for the nest monitoring program in Suriname, South
> America.
> The beaches of Suriname, particularly Matapica and Babunsanti are
> some of the most important leatherback turtle nesting beaches in
> the world. These beaches also provide important nesting sites for
> the green turtle as well as olive ridley and hawksbill.

> This person will help coordinate the work done by Suriname
> Foundation for Natural Preservation (STINASU) field staff and have
> the following duties:

> -Coordinate nest monitoring activities and data collection
> including nesting surveys, hatchling emergences, disorientations,
> predation, etc.)
> -Build field personnel capacity (such as turtle tagging and
> morphometric data)
> -Provide data to local managers
> -Establish and maintain a hatchery at Babunsanti Beach
> -Train researchers to curate, analyze data and write reports
> -Contribute directly to environmental protection through education
> (offer turtle biology classes for educators)
> -Assist with Oceanic Society and Elderhostel research

> Because of the nature of this work we are looking for someone that
> has experience in sea turtle biology, can work independently and
