Proyecto Ambiental Tenerife:
Volunteers-
Proyecto Ambiental Tenerife is a Spanish environmental charity. It has been
running projects for eight years and many thousands of volunteers from all
over the world have participated.
It runs a number of community development projects, all of which have three
broad goals:
# to support local communities
# to enable volunteers to 'do something'
# to achieve important conservation and community goals.
The following projects are running this year:
Whale & Dolphin Conservation:
Educational guides on the whale watch boats.
Cetacean research:
- photo identification, pilot whales/ bottlenose dolphins
- boat impact, pilot whales
- behavioural studies, pilot whales/ bottlenose dolphins
- in addition to the above, which are ongoing, there are a number of ad hoc
projects running at any given time.
- Canary Nature research initiative.
Educational Workshops.
Materials Production- PC/ Mac based graphic design.
Pollution: Shore Line Ecology
Marine Habitat (sub literal) Survey
Folklore: Dance, music, festivals, songs, poems, traditions.
Herbal Remedies:
- identification of plants used within
communities
- recording of oral traditions
- cultivation, picking, processing and application of plants.
Dolphin Therapy:
In addition to volunteer opportunities, there are a number of specialist
GROUP activities: (six or more people.
# Spanish language tuition within rural communities
# Educational whale watching
# Education Field Trips- geology, geography, tourism impacts,
environmental
management, marine biology, pollution, conservation,
