Position Description:
IKAM Peru is an organization centered in Moyobamba, Peru, that is working to promote conservation in the Alto Mayo region of Peru. IKAM Peru is especially interested in the conservation and protection of Lagothrix lagotricha.

The Alto Mayo region of Peru is located in the Department of San Martin and is home to 13 species of primates, including the endemic and endangered Lagothrix flavicauda, as well as endemic species of Callicebus and Aotus.

IKAM Peru currently houses 12 orphaned Lagothrix lagotricha in a semi captive setting. These individuals were rescued from local markets and homes. The organization is curently involved in establishing this group in a free ranging setting on a 50 ha reserve on the banks of the Rio Mayo.

IKAM Peru would like to encourage students who are beginning their masters or doctoral studies to consider working in this diverse region of Peru. There are currently no long term studies of primates in the area.

IKAM Peru would also like to invite any students interested in conducting studies on the helath and/or behavior of Lagothrix lagotricha in a semi captive setting.

In order to promote work in this region, IKAM Paeru is willing to provide lodging in the city of Moyobamba, as well as assistance in establishing local contacts, including the office of Bosque Proteccion Alto Mayo, as well as assistance in locating guides and field assistants.
