Position Description:
A volunteer field assistant is needed to assist a
Ph.D. student
studying the behavioral ecology of brown titi monkeys
(Callicebus
brunneus). Responsibilities will include recording
behavioral
observations and conducting playback experiments.
The research area is part of a conservation concession
protecting
approximately 140,000 hectares of lowland tropical
rainforest in the
department of Madre de Dios. Easily accessible by
boat, the area is
relatively pristine and home to 11 primate species.
Qualifications:
Patience and good health (good humor a plus).
Salary/funding:
No salary is provided.
Support provided for internship/volunteer positions
(travel, meals,
lodging):
No support is available. Volunteer must provide own
airfare and field
station fees ($20/day), which include three meals a
day and rather posh
accommodations (running water, solar electricity,
internet access).
Term of Appointment: At least two months. To begin
March or April, 2005
