Wara Yassi is a Bolivian association who rescue all kind of wild animals from
black market, circus or zoo, cure them and work for their rehabilitation.
Volunteers will help taking care of the animals, volunteers who wish to be
responsible for one specific animal, need further training and therefore are
required to stay a minimum of one month. Long term volunteers are very
essential and form the base the refuge relies on. Basic knowledge of the
Spanish language is not necessary, but recommended.
Site information: Both
Park, Machia and Ambu Ari are localized in tropical ecosystem. Parque Machia is
next to the
Duties: Your
day starts at 7h30 and end around 18h00, during the day you get an hour and
half lunch break. There is on day off every 15 days.
The work varies
greatly:
-It could be tending
the sick monkey or dealing with newcomers. The monkey cages need to be cleaned and
monkey beddings need to be washed.
- Volunteers working in
the aviary will be preparing birds to their return to the wild. Other could
work in our raptors release program.
-Most cats (especially
Pumas and Jaguars) are walked daily and need one or two volunteers to be with
them at all times.
Requirements: Everyone
can volunteer, you don’t need previous experience or a biology degree,
all you need is a big heart and the will to work hard to save the animals.
Professional help is very welcome, vets are especially needed.
Costs/benefits: we
ask our volunteers to pay for their 15 days in advance (US$80) which include
food, accommodation and a fee to help to pay medicine and food for the animals.
