Por favor fijate si es un 1600 ó un modelo 1956. Ambas cosas no pueden ser, salvo que esté "injertado". Mientras veo si mi manual, CREO válido desde 1956 al 1960, puede servir.

La Transmisión Semi-automática VW consiste en un Clutch con sistema hidrodinámico con Convertidor de Torque, que es accionado eléctricamente al tocar la palanca de cambios. La caja viene con 3 velocidades adelante. Lamentablemente, a pesar de su éxito inicial, pronto comenzaron algunas dudas sobre su calidad y duración y por esto, no contaron con mucha difusión. Además, las cajas Semiautomáticas eran reemplazadas al cambiar el VW de dueño y sobre todo de mecánico. Un amigo que trabaja para VW Classic Parts en Wolfsburg me
dijo que se cree que sobreviven más Escarabajos Split Window que Escarabajos VW Automatic. En Bogotá solo conozco 3 Escarabajos VW Automatic.
A partír del modelo 1968, se ofrece opcional para el Escarabajo y el Karmann Ghia tipo 14, el cambio semi-automático, denominado VW Automatic Stick Shift, destinado al mercado femenino. En principio tuvo gran acogida: 1 de cada 4 VW tipo 1 con motor 1500, producidos en 1968 tuvo la
opción VW Automatic. A partir del modelo 1974, los VW Automatic tienen la posición de Parking. En 1976 se termina la producción de modelos con caja semi-automática. En total se produjeron 610.300 VW Automatic Stick Shift.
Es interesante comentar que esta no fue la primera caja automática que ofreció VW. Ya desde 1961 se ofreció el Escarabajo y el Karmann Ghia tipo 14 con la caja Saxomat. Esta caja también era semiautomática y utilizaba los mismos 4 cambios adelante de la caja mecánica. Era de venta casi exclusiva en Alemania y tenía como mercado a los liciados por la guerra.
Y que pasaba con los VW tipo 3, tipo 34 y tipo 4? También a partir de 1968 se comenzó a ofrecer una caja automática, la cual si tenía sus 3 cambios adelante totalmente automáticos. Esta caja es común para los 3 modelos.
