Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is a new NGO dedicated to providing African journalists with the necessary tools to report accurately and concretely about human rights issues. JHR will focus on building the capacity of journalists by transferring knowledge about human rights from Western experts to African journalists and journalism institutions and creating human rights content in the African media. By empowering journalists to report on human rights issues, a 'culture of rights' will emerge wherein citizens are informed and able to protect their own, and others, rights. Web: www.jhr.ca

Placement: Ghana
Duration: 2 weeks
Starting date: April, 2003 and November, 2003.
Description: Experts will conduct a number of training seminars, symposiums and lectures for the purpose of educating journalists, editors and media owners about various issues in human rights. The Expert will tour the country, conducting these forums for training in the places of most impact. While JHR will direct the Expert in choosing the general topics for the training exercises, the Expert will be expected to construct the training material. JHR will organize all training activities.
JHR will cover the costs of the Expert's flight, room and board, and in country transportation.
Additional Qualifications:
--Extensive experience in international human rights
--Some experience in journalism
--Public speaking experience
--Knowledge of the African human rights situation
--A public profile a definite plus

Graduate with expertise and at least 1 yr of experience in designing and maintaining Websites, Knowledge of Photoshop, FTP clients and Flash. Writing and editing skills are essential to the job.
