The University of Oxford established the James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization at the end of 2002 with the generous support of the James Martin Trust. Its purposes are to identify science and technology issues likely to play especially critical roles in shaping the future world; to initiate and conduct research on such issues: to try to influence the course of technological and social change through the engagement of highest quality scholarship with key decision-makers in business, government, and civil society; to establish fellowship
programmes with the aim of bringing together leading scholars and practitioners around the world to do research; to establish a symposium programme to be styled a World Forum on Science and Civilization; and to
establish a teaching programme with the object of training future generations of world leaders. The University is seeking to appoint a Director, who will also be Professor of Science and Civilization. The successful candidate will be an interdisciplinary social scientist of distinction. The electors intend to proceed to an election with effect from 1 October 2003.

Stanford University invites applications for an open rank search in Film Studies, with specialization in the history and criticism of Western European, Eastern European and/or Russian cinema, the appointment to begin
in the Fall of 2004.

The position requires teaching courses for both undergraduate and graduate students with a range of backgrounds and interests in film studies.  The
successful candidate will be an active participant in the development and implementation of Stanford's new program in film and media studies in collaboration with colleagues in other relevant disciplines.  He or she
will be appointed in the Department of Art and Art History or another appropriate department.

Description of Position

This position reports to: Guest Services Manager; World Coordinator
Position start date: Dember 1, 2003
Position end date: January 30, 2004
Salary: $1600/month
Seasonal employment status: Full Time Hours

Primary Purpose of Position: The World On Site Coordinator is assigned to handling the at-festival needs of half of the World Category films. This position will be working under the World Coordinator before the festival and independently during the festival on the films assigned. Acting as a liaison between the guest and the festival, the World On site Coordinator is responsible for representing the Sundance Institute to filmmakers and guests: coordinating all screenings, arranging transportation (if needed), interpreters and assisting with schedule arrangements during the festival. Beyond these important administrative tasks, the FMC acts as a friendly host and is the primary contact for the guest during his involvement with the festival organization.

 Job Responsibilities

Pre-Festival
Minimum work hours 9 am - 6 pm weekdays, some weekends and extended hours required as needed
Work with World Coordinator to split up the films in a way that makes sense
Correspond and communicate with all guests in a timely fashion
Compile: benefits packages (includes all tickets); complete schedule of events for each guest; program book with one-sheets for each guest
Work as a team with all other members of the filmmaker services department and assist others as needed
Other duties as assigned

Festival
Minimum work hours 8 am - 6 pm throughout festival, includes weekends and extended hours
Assist with move to, setting up and tearing down of festival office in Park City
Greet guests upon arrival, distribute packages, discuss schedule
Check in daily with filmmakers you are assigned to
Work with World programmer and World Coordinator to meet the needs of all World filmmakers
Host each guest throughout their stay at the festival; cover key screenings and all relevant program-wide events
Other duties as assigned

Primary Purpose of Position: To assist the Shorts programming team in organizing and maintaining the short film screening process. Primarily assisting the administrative responsibilities of the program.

 
Job Responsibilities

Pre-Festival
Check in short films and assist in managing submission process
Assist in maintaining tracking list. Make sure tracking list films are pulled and given to proper programmer
Assist in coordinating shorts screening process - getting tapes to and from screeners, getting coverage from screeners, organizing coverage
Assist in getting animation shorts to animation screener
Assist in monitoring screener's progress
Assist in organizing shorts office shelves, making sure recommended titles are in the correct place.
Occasionally run tapes to programmers and senior programmer
Work with Programming Manager to ensure all press/stills/bios etc are available for highly rated films
Assist in sending out invitation letters/faxes to accepted films
Assist in collecting background /support materials and contact information from accepted films
Assist in answering programmer phone- return calls, emails and correspondence

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Education
1.Employee is required to have authorization to work in the United States.
2.Must have basic computer skills.
3.Must have a car, the ability to work flexible hours (including holidays, nights and weekends), work in a frenetic team environment and possess excellent organizational skills.

The Panelists Coordinator is assigned to a specific group of festival invited guests. These guests include filmmakers, cinematographers, screenwriters and others invited to speak on a panel. Acting as a liaison between the panelists and the festival, the coordinator is responsible for representing the Sundance Institute to guests: coordinating all benefits, providing all necessary information prior to the festival and assisting with schedule arrangements during the festival. Beyond these important administrative tasks, the coordinator acts as a friendly host and is the primary contact for the guest during his involvement with the festival organization.

 
Job Responsibilities

Pre-Festival
Minimum work hours 9 am - 6 pm weekdays, some weekends and extended hours required as needed
Oversee all guest benefits, coordinate travel, lodging and schedules
Work with Panels programming, House of Docs programming and Digital Center programming to determine who is coming in for each panel.
Work with Travel Zone to arrange travel for specified guests.
Correspond and communicate with all guests in a timely fashion

Compile, organize and catalogue all program materials
Compile wrap-up book with all information, correspondence and relevant documents for each program
Write a complete wrap-up: evaluation of the job, the department and all relevant comments on other departments and the festival as a whole
Other duties as assigned

The Department of Communication Studies at Northeastern is an innovative, teaching and research department comprised of three concentrations: Media
Studies, Organizational Communication and Public Communication. Its mission is to develop both its research and teaching in a way that advances critical thinking into practice and application. The two positions are designed to strengthen our media studies concentration which has been developing a cultural studies approach to media analysis and production.

Position One: Media Studies with production experience. We are seeking applicants with a doctorate (or the completion of the doctorate prior to commencing the position) with research areas and teaching expertise that
demonstrate a capacity to teach video and/or audio production courses as well as critical analyses of media. Secondary areas of teaching and research strengths may include new media studies, research methods and
advertising. Some industry experience would be preferred.

Position Two: Media Studies with an expertise in media and cultural theory/Media History and/or media and cultural policy, political economy.

intersects with media and cultural theory. A capacity to develop courses in media and technological history and/or media and cultural policy, and political economy would be advantageous and preferred. Other areas of
