The Banff New Media Institute and The Canadian Cultural Online Portal are pleased to present Issue 11.1 of HorizonZero:
CONNECT: technology + social interaction

CONNECT to the tangle of technology and social interaction that is Montreal's SAT (The Society for Arts and Technology). Beginning at the party of the season at the new SAT space, CONNECT will lead you through the
encounters, networks and partnerships that have fused into the exciting and forward-thinking projects that have put Montreal on the new media map.
Sylvie Parent's photoessay Open Territories looks at a unique collaboration, catalysed by the SAT, that is bringing artists, scientists, and universities together to explore and expand the possibilities of "very broad" broadband networks.
SAT Connections cycles through a small selection of projects and partners-from community based neighbourhood initiatives to international calibre festivals-- that have passed through the SAT doors.
And Richard Barbeau's Rendez-vous sur les bancs publics describes a groundbreaking collaboration between Luc Courchesne, Monique Savoie, and the
SAT. This very special telematic installation brought together ordinary Quebecers passing by park benches in different cities, in an experimental and engaging use of interactive technology.
Also in this issue, Michael La Chance and Jean Gagnon offer their reflections on the immersive worlds and encounters-with landscapes, people, and choices-that make up the artwork of Luc Courchesne.
