Authors must submit three hard copies of the article and an electronic copy on disk in MS Word. A single title page must accompany one of the hard copies, containing complete contact information (address, phone number,
e-mail address). On the first page of each of the three copies of the article, only include the article's title, being sure not to include the author's name. The JPC will be instituting a triple ''blind review'' process, meaning that a copy of the article will be sent to one of three reviewers. The author's name will not be revealed to the reviewer.
Essays should be written in clear U.S. English in the active voice and third person, in a style accessible to the broadest possible audience.
Authors should be sensitive to the social implications of language and choose wording free of discriminatory or sexist overtones.
For documentation, The Journal of Popular Culture follows the Modern Language Association style, as articulated by Joseph Gibaldi and Walter S. Achtert in the paperback MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 5th ed. (New York: MLA, 1999), and in The MLA Style Manual, 2nd ed. (New York: MLA, 1998). scientist? What is the value of scientific practices,
techniques, inventions, aesthetics and knowledge for the
artist?
When does art become science and science, art? Or are
these categories useless at their boundaries and
intersections?
Can an individual excel at both science and art, or is even
a passing familiarity with one sufficient to influence the
other significantly? Do the arts ever contribute
significantly to scientific progress? Where will current
scientific innovations lead the arts in the next few
decades?
Leonardo will publish a series of special sections over the next 3 years devoted to exploring these questions.
Submissions can be from artistic scientists who find their
art avocation valuable; from scientist-artist collaborators
who can demonstrate a scientific or artistic innovation;
from scientifically literate artists who draw problems,
materials, techniques or processes from the sciences; or
from historians of art or science looking at past examples
of such interactions.

The Social Text Collective is pleased to accept papers for a forthcoming special dossier on the work of Edward Said.
Deadline: September 30, 2004
The editors of Social Text invite contributors to pay tribute to Edward Said, an admired colleague and friend. In its first issue Social Text published Edward Saidis essay, iZionism from the Standpoint of Its Victimsi (1979), a chapter in the then forthcoming book, The Question of
Palestine, and, almost a decade later, the journal dedicated a special issue to iColonial Discourse,i featuring an interview with Said, along with essays dialoguing with his work.
As a way of remembering Edward Said, Social Text announces a special issue edited by Gyan Prakash and Ella Shohat. This issue hopes to reflect on themes central to Saidis work, highlighting his interventions in the politics of knowledge, and his impact on a number of fields. In the spirit of Saidis writings, we invite contributions that cross geographical and disciplinary boundaries, while also reflecting on his life and work in relation to the major transformations, shifts and contradictions in our intellectual and political landscape.
Papers should be submitted by e-mail if possible, as an attachment saved in Microsoft Word. The text should be double-spaced, no more than 8,000 words, with numbered endnotes. For style, please follow the Chicago

a mostra sera realizada em video, no CCCB, que e o centro de cultura contemporanea de barcelona, onde acontecem maioria dos festivais de la. serao 5 horas de mostra e ela esta dividida em blocos:
documentarios, ficcao, popular e o mix e experimenta(que sao experimentais, animacoes e uma selecao de dois festivais paulistas)
os filmes enviados tem que ser de no max ate 20 min. para selecao, ate o dia 12 de fevereiro em sao paulo e dia 20 de fevereiro em barcelona. a copia pode ser vhs ntsc ou pal. com toda info a respeito do filme e contatos.
os selecionados serao informados no fim de marco.

informo a todos que o festival brasil noar que tera lugar em barcelona no fim de abril tem um site para informacoes no geral: <http://www.brasilnoar.com> eu, Lorraine Gallard, sou a responsavel so da parte audiovisual, ou seja organizo somente a mostra de cine dentro do festival brasil noar. qq outra area artistica que queira se apresentar, tem que pedir informacoes ao info@... .
a respeito da mostra:
a mostra sera realizada em video, no CCCB, que e o centro de cultura contemporanea de barcelona, onde acontecem maioria dos festivais de la. serao 5 horas de mostra e ela esta dividida em blocos:
documentarios, ficcao, popular e o mix e experimenta(que sao experimentais, animacoes e uma selecao de dois festivais paulistas)
os filmes enviados tem que ser de no max ate 20 min. para selecao, ate o dia 12 de fevereiro em sao paulo e dia 20 de fevereiro em barcelona. a copia pode ser vhs ntsc ou pal. com toda info a respeito do filme e contatos.
os selecionados serao informados no fim de marco.
de preferencia os filmes tem de ser atuais, ja que e a Brasil NO AR (nova arte brasileira).
infelizmente nao tenho uma ficha de inscricao. a parte de mostra do brnoar esta crescendo e futuramente teremos cada vez mais estrutura e tb a intencao de estar em 2005 apresentando longas(quem sabe ja em pelicula) e podendo convidar os respectivos diretores... mais um dia a gente chega la!

The Leonardo Electronic Almanac (ISSN No: 1071-4391) is inviting papers for a special issue guest edited by
Michael Punt under the rubric: "From the Extraordinary to the Uncanny: the persistence of a parallel universe."
We are seeking submissions of papers and other works from artists historians, and theorists interested in this topic. In particular we are calling for short papers (+2500 words) or artists statements and image essays on:
* para-science and para-art
* spirit photography
* magic, conjuring and performance
* consciousness, precognition and the uncanny subject
* coincidence, narrative and psychoanalysis
* history and the inexplicable event
* sub-cellular phenomena and a macro reality
* toward a theory of unstable realities
* accident, memory and amnesia
LEA encourages international artists / academics / researchers / students to submit their proposals for consideration. We particularly encourage young authors outside North America and Europe to send proposals for articles/gallery/artists statements.
Expressions of interest and outline should include:
- 300 word abstract / synopsis
- A brief author biography
