ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION
The Department of Communication has an active, accomplished faculty,
whose work is nationally and internationally recognized. There are
approximately 120 M.A. students and 40 Ph.D. students in a thriving
graduate program. The Ph.D. program offers instruction in two tracks:
Public Communication (which brings together faculty in the mass and
speech communication areas) and Moving Image Studies (combining
faculty strength in film and digital media production and criticism,
and performance studies). The graduate faculty has been greatly
enhanced in the last five years, and the university has committed to
additional programmatic expansion. The department houses the Digital
Arts and Entertainment Laboratory (including an audience response
theatre and
digital production and post-production studios), the Center for

OVERVIEW: Develop, plan, staff, coordinate, monitor and evaluate all
CE technology course offerings. Supervise the following certificate
programs coordinators: Advertising for Print, Broadcast + Internet;
Computer Animation; Print Design Process + Production; Video Editing
for Digital Postproduction; Web Design/Development; and Fast Track
Computer programs and assorted Young Artist and Pre-College programs.
Work to help integrate technology into non-technological areas of CE
and help plan for the advent of online learning efforts. Supervise
the Computer Lab Specialist and co-supervise the Programs Assistant.
Work with the director and others in tailoring courses for the public
to meet the particular needs of area businesses. Advise students and
faculty as necessary and conduct orientation sessions. Make
recommendations concerning software, hardware, lab facilities, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prepare draft copy of seasonal (spring, summer,
fall, winter) Extension course catalogs, sections of the Summer
Studies and Pre-College catalogs, faculty and student handbooks, and
orientation and training materials. Work closely with the CE
Marketing Manager on initiatives for these programs. Participate in
establishing annual goals, objectives and action plans for technology
dependant CE programs. Develop and implement academic policies and
procedures, establishing criteria for assessment, portfolio review,
and program completion. Develop new certificate programs in the area
of technology. Manage and oversee the implementation and evaluation
of those programs. Monitor budgets and staffing plans.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree, or equivalent education and a
combination of experience in art design, technology, and/or adult
education desired. Minimum BFA, BA/BS required. Three to five years
experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation,
preferably in a continuing education environment. Experience in an
arts school or organization, or as a consultant will be considered.
Familiarity with emerging technologies, network issues, software
applications and platforms relevant to web design, animation, graphic
design, digital post-production for video, 3D modeling, digital
photography, and game design, etc. is required along with proficiency
with business and educational applications of such technology tools.
Excellent writing and math skills are required. The ability to remain
current with post-secondary level technology and teaching trends in
the fields of art and design as well as training curriculum for the
corporate sector is desired. Familiarity with registration database
software and Excel, along with the ability to assess the technology
knowledge level of potential course instructors is desired. Ability
to work independently, and as a member of a team.

in race, ethnicity and media. A Ph.D. is required, along with the

social scientific approaches, is expected.

Dell'Arte survives and thrives through the creativity and spirit of

productions, professional actor-training programs, arts education
program and work in community development.
Dell'Arte is the American center for the development, exploration,
training, creation, and performance of the actor-creator. Our
mission is to create theatre, a professional theatre training
program, and a regional art center that enrich and inspire our
audiences, students, and artists though physical theatre forms used
to explore contemporary concerns with passion, style and craft. More

The Marketing Director will work in conjunction with other staff to
make sure all programs have the necessary marketing materials and
press outreach to succeed.
The Marketing Director will develop a five-year overall marketing
plan as well as a very specific one-year marketing plan for each
year. The first five-year plan will set the goals to be reached
between 2004 and 2009. The first one-year plan will provide the
schedule and cost estimates for 2004/2005.
As part of the plan, the Marketing Director will schedule the
development, design, printing and distribution of all Dell'Arte
publications. Publications include: the Dell'Arte website, two annual
newsletters, the school brochure/application packet, the summer
workshop brochure, Dell'Arte Presents postcards and programs, the Mad
River Festival (MRF) brochure and
program, the Dell'Arte Company booking packets, Youth Academy mailers
for after school and summer programs, print ads for the Company,
School and MRF, the Holiday show program, and any other printed
material for any Dell'Arte program. The Marketing Director may and
most likely will delegate responsibility for a number of the items
listed, but the overall scheduling and responsibility for follow
through remains with the Marketing Director.
The Marketing Director with work in association with the Director of
Admissions (school recruitment), the Advancement Director
(foundations and sponsorships), the Producing Artistic Director and
Booking Manager (securing bookings and sponsorships and promoting
performances), the MRF/Presents Director (performances in Blue Lake),
and the Youth Academy Director. The Marketing Director works under
the direction of the Administrative Director in coordination with the
School Director.
In addition, the Marketing Director with design and schedule the
media campaign each year both locally and nationally, to include the
scheduling, development and distribution of public service
announcements (PSAs), press releases, interviews, etc. to most
effectively promote Dell'Arte in Humboldt County, in California, in
the U.S. and internationally. The Marketing Director, again, will
most likely delegate tasks involved in this effort,
but will serve as the single coordinator for the media campaign.
The Dell'Arte staff reflects the commitment to ensemble that is part
of Dell'Arte's mission. In addition to regular duties, all Dell'Arte
staff share some general office duties including phone answering.
The job requires attendance at weekly staff meetings, a weekly
written up-date of
progress to the Producing Artistic Director and ongoing communication
withother staff as required.
