Position Title: Web Intern
Reports to: Webmaster
Type of position: Intern, unpaid
Minimum Time Commitment: 20 hrs/week
Duration: One semester
Location: New York City
Objective: To lessen the workload of the Webmaster while providing a
practical learning experience to a student interested in web design
and data management.
Overview: The Communications Department of Doctors Without
Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres works to expand awareness of the
humanitarian crises and endemic health problems in developing
countries that our medical teams address in the field. Public
awareness is built through three primary means: active and reactive
presswork; publications produced in-house, including our quarterly
newsletter and website; and public education activities such as
interactive exhibits, speaking events, screenings, and the creation
and distribution of teaching tools and curriculums.
The Web Intern will assist the Webmaster, offering day-to-day
programming support and meeting project-based needs as they arise.
The Web Intern will have the opportunity to contribute creatively to
a constantly evolving, highly-trafficked website while improving his
or her programming skills. An undergraduate looking to put a computer
science degree to work for a good cause will be perfect for this
position.
Duties: The Web Intern will be expected to perform the following tasks:
Post daily updated content to site
Design and create graphics
Re-work existing pages for upcoming site redesign
Participate in meetings with other departments to discuss site development
Required Skills: Candidate must have some ability to hand-code HTML
and be able to use either Photoshop, Fireworks or Paintshop Pro at an
intermediate level. Attention to detail and the ability to
troubleshoot ones own work is a requirement.
Preferred Skills: Knowledge of how to use an FTP client, Microsoft
Office products (including Access), SQL Enterprise Manager and Quark.

The Department of Music at Brown University is seeking applications
for a full-time technical manager. The responsibilities include
coordinating the technical concerns of the research facilities and
academic programs for meme@brown (Multimedia and Electronic Music
Experiments). Manager will assist with faculty research projects,
work with students, provide support for concerts and special events,
and maintain equipment in the program's recording studio and other
music/multimedia production studios.
The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the technical
concerns of the entire Music Department, including computers, and
audio systems. The Technical Manager will teach one course per year,
with occasional other teaching as needed.
Applicants should hold a degree in music, engineering, computer
science, or have related professional experience. Advanced degrees
are preferred. Applicants must have a strong background in music,
recording engineering, and multimedia. Candidates must have
experience with a broad range of computer music, recording studio and
related audio hardware and software and maintaining Apple computing
systems. Applicants must possess the ability to deal with and
prioritize conflicting demands. Candidates must demonstrate excellent
interpersonal skills, with particular ability to explain technical
issues to students, faculty, and staff. Teaching experience is
preferred.
Review of applications will begin immediately. Interviews will begin
July 1 for a potential summer start date. The salary for this
position will be in the low to mid-$40's.

General information on Malmo University
Malmo University has 21 000 students and about 1 300 employees. We
work with a multi-disciplinary approach in both graduate and

problem-based learning. Malmo University has six multi-disciplinary
areas of education: Health and Society; International Migration and
Ethnic Relations (IMER); Art, Culture and Communication (K3); Teacher
Training; the Faculty of Odontology; Technology and Society.
General information on Art, Culture and Communication
Art, Culture and Communication (K3) is one of the new fields of
education and research at Malmo University. The area has about 70
staff and 700 students. We are housed in newly renovated premises at
Beijerskajen, which is about five minutes from the central station in
Malmo. One common point of departure in our field is the use and
development of technology that is meaningful to people. Technology is
developed at the interface of art and the humanistic tradition, the
aim being to enrich society and its embedded culture. The following
graduate courses are run in this area: Interaction Design; Stage and
Theatre Technology; the Science of Media and Communication;
Contemporary Cultural Science; Material and Virtual Design. The
supplementary courses are: Interaction Design; Cultural Production;

Description of subject
In the Science of Media and Communication, mediated communication is
studied from the cultural-theoretical perspective. The subject covers
traditional mass media and digital media, as well as techniques,
forms and strategies for mediated communication in different social
and cultural contexts. Studies cover the general conditions
surrounding media and communication, including production conditions,
content and forms of expression and their significance for society
and for people's thinking and daily life. The subject is structured
around a combination of analysis and form.
Duties and functions
These include lecturing and development, primarily in Communication
for Development. Other duties may arise later on when the range of
courses in K3 is further extended.
Qualifications Qualifications required for employment as a university
lecturer are as follows:
* Doctorate or equivalent competence or other professional
skills related to the subject matter of the post and the duties
required for the post
* Teacher training qualifications for university education or
equivalent skills acquired in other ways
* proven skills in education methodology
* ability to teach in English
The following requirements must also be fulfilled by a university
lecturer at Malmo University:
* good ability to cooperate with the community at large and to
disseminate information regarding activities in the area of
responsibility
* good ability to execute and lead outlined activities
* good ability to cooperate with others
Grounds for assessment
The grounds for assessment when employing a university lecturer are
based on the levels of skills and abilities required in the
qualifications as stated above. Special weight is given to scientific
and educational skills, and competence in these two areas is given
equal priority in assessment. In addition, the ability to plan and
lead the course is particularly important. Experience in development
of education methodology and interdisciplinary projects is desirable.
Applicants should have extensive practical skills and theoretical
knowledge of media and communication in international development
work. Experience of work in a developing country is desirable.
