@ THAILAND INTERNSHIPS. GLOBAL SERVICE CORPS
==========================================
prazo/plazo/deadline: 31 MAR 2006
VOLUNTARIO
Are you looking for an experience that will change your life and the lives of
others?
We offer opportunities to volunteer in orphanages, local schools, hospitals,
and Buddhist monasteries. Internships are available as well. Depending on
your interests, we will help you design a program that is ideal for you.
If you have an interest in education, you may teach English in schools,
orphanages, a school for the Deaf, local hospitals, and Buddhist monasteries.
You have the opportunity to work with Thai staff, teachers and monks, leading
classes in conversational English, and teaching new vocabulary,
pronunciation, games and songs. You may also provide environmental
education to Thai students and take them on field trips in the area.
If you are interested in international heath, you have the opportunity to
observe and experience international healthcare by "shadowing" doctors at
local hospitals and clinics. These health opportunities are terrific for anyone
with an interest in health, and are particularly appropriate for health
professionals, pre-med students, and students in other healthcare areas.
Participants electing to work at a Buddhist monastery teach monks English
and are immersed in Buddhist spirituality while at the temple. Volunteers may
participate in many of the daily activities including meditation.
GSC volunteers are based in Central Thailand, a beautiful province known
for its many significant historical sites. Participants live with a Thai family
who
will graciously introduce you to the Thai culture, cuisine and customs through
excursions and daily interaction, providing a unique cultural experience not to
be forgotten.
Two-week and short term project trips are available as well as long term
placements and student internships (6 weeks - 6 months).
This an excellent way for students to fulfill either internship or independent
study requirements. Academic credit is available for all GSC projects. For
internships, both upper class undergraduates and graduate students are
eligible. Education and Buddhist immersion internships are available as well
as international health internships which involve the shadowing of doctors in
hospitals and health clinics. Students need not be U.S. citizens to participate.
