@ VOLUNTEERING IN NEPAL
==========================================
prazo/plazo/deadline: N/C
VOLUNTARIO

Nepal is an astonishingly beautiful and diverse country, ranging from
the well-known peaks of the Himalaya to the low-lying regions of the
Terai. The Nepali people also foster a wealth of cultural diversity,
with over 70 languages or dialects and scores of traditional
festivals celebrated throughout the year. The nation deserves to take
pride in having a unique, and indeed very rich cultural and
historical background.

Nepal is also an under-developed country, with low rates of literacy,
high rates of poverty and a persistent gender imbalance. The
government is frequently unable to provide sufficient or adequate
education and health facilities in rural areas, and those in urban
areas are of a poorly resourced.
The Volunteer Society Nepal seeks to address these issues of
literacy, poverty and gender imbalance. By working in partnership
with Nepali communities, VSN ensures that the progress made is
sustainable.

VSN coordinates construction, health, environmental and education
projects throughout economically disadvantaged areas of Nepal. These
projects provide opportunities for national and international
volunteers to assist in the development of Nepal. VSN also runs a
cultural exchange program, Nepali language and cultural classes and a
home stay program.

Voluntary work in Nepal can be an extremely rewarding and
life-changing experience. Your efforts can bring great changes in the
lives of individual people and the wider community. This can not be
said enough. In the difficult times that Nepal is now facing, your
contribution of time or resources is extremely valuable.

We invite you to experience the real Nepal, through participation in
a VSN program. Words are ever too limited to express the beauty and
attraction of the geographical and cultural landscape, the warmth and
generosity of the Nepali people, because it is really a feeling of
the heart entering through one's vision.

VSN Nepal invites organisations, individuals, couples, groups,
students and experts, as well as senior and young professionals to
make a great contribution and bring changes by getting involved in:

@ PROJECT DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR IN GUATEMALA. UNITED PLANET (UP)
==========================================
prazo/plazo/deadline: 31 0UT 2006
REMUNERADA

As featured on CNN, United Planet (UP) is a leading international,
educational, humanitarian, and peace-building, non-profit
organization based in Boston, USA. United Planet is a highly
innovative and entrepreneurial non-profit organization devoted to
fostering cross-cultural understanding and friendship and supporting
communities in need worldwide.

United Planet is searching for a Project Development Manager for our
United Planet Micro-Empowerment Project in Guatemala for a minimum of
6 months to one year.

Project Description:

Supported by Timberland Corporation and former volunteers, United
Planet is building a Laundromat at a women's shelter in
Quetzaltenango, the second largest city southwest of Guatemala.
Currently, the shelter, serving both battered women and children, is
having a very difficult time making ends meet to provide a basic
healthy diet and education for the women and children. The Laundromat
project serves as a way to empower the shelter with ongoing program
revenue and a means to provide the battered women with the training
to develop self-reliance and independence.

In Guatemala, violence within the home is commonplace. It is a
patriarchal culture, where alcohol, poverty and a lack of government
intervention exist. Battered women who wish to regain complete
control of their lives have to overcome numerous difficulties where
economic dependence is possibly the greatest limitation. Studies have
found that almost 50% of the women at the shelter return back home
because of the economic factor. Once home, they face abuse and even
more violence from their husbands because they ran away in the first
place.

Position Description:

United Planet is currently searching for Spanish-speaking business
students and professionals with experience in business plan
development and project development to assist with the first and
second stage of this special Micro-empowerment Laundromat project.
The Project Manager will lead the initiative from business plan
development to implementation and start-up.

As a vital UP team member, the Project Development Coordinator will:

Develop business plan, including budget and marketing plan for the project.
Lead the development of the Laundromat project in Guatemala in
coordination with the Shelter Director and other short-term
volunteers.
Take part in rigorous public relations and marketing campaigns.
Conduct evaluations to bring about constant quality improvement.
Train the battered women and Shelter staff on operations and planning.
Qualifications:

Experience in project development
Experience in business plan development and implementation
Fluent Spanish skills
Experience in Latin America (Guatemalan culture preferred)
Superb leadership and communications skills
Resourceful, Confident, and Goal-oriented
Bachelors degree at a minimum
Compensation:

The Project Development Coordinator will receive free housing and
meals with a local host family, as well as airfare to Guatemala,
along with a nominal stipend.

@ CALL FOR APPLICATIONS. EDITOR, THE MOVING IMAGE. JOURNAL OF THE
ASSOCIATION OF MOVING IMAGE ARCHIVISTS
==========================================
prazo/plazo/deadline: 30 OUT 2006

published during the first six years. The Moving Image has become
essential reading for both the archival and academic fields. We now
seek an Editor or Co-Editors able to continue the journal's record of
