@ CALL FOR PAPERS: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PERVASIVE COMPUTING (ZURICH, SWITZERLAND)
============================================
prazo/plazo/deadline: 22/02/2002
PERVASIVE 2002
August 26-28, 2002
ETH Zurich (Switzerland)
Organized by IBM Research and ETH Zurich
www.pervasive2002.org
Relentless progress in basic Information Technologies (IT) - microprocessors, memory chips, integrated sensors, storage devices, and wireless communication systems - continues to bring ever smaller, lighter, and faster systems-on-a-chip. As a result, beyond large hosts, PCs, and laptop computers, IT systems are now invading every aspect of life to the point that they are disappearing inside all sorts of appliances or can be worn unobtrusively as part of clothing and jewelry.
This explosive spread of IT can be compared to the spread of electric motors over the past century but promises to revolutionize life much more
profoundly than elevators or electric car windows ever did. At the same time, pervasive computing poses profound challenges including technical, safety, social, legal, political, and economic issues.
The objective of this conference will be to present, discuss, and explore latest technical developments in the emerging field of pervasive computing as well as potential future directions and issues. Leaving
aside low-level hardware and transmission technology topics as well as peripheral socio-economic aspects, the conference will focus on technical infrastructure and application issues. It will include presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions, and demos on subjects like:
- System architectures and platforms for pervasive computing
- Middleware and pervasive computing
infrastructures
- Mobile, wireless, and wearable technologies
- Innovative small computing and intelligent devices
- Emerging applications and mobile business issues
- Scenarios for information appliances
- Service discovery protocols
- Content distribution and delivery
- User interfaces for invisible and embedded computing
- Context awareness
- Security and privacy issues
Proceedings (containing the full papers) will be published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series. Advice for authors and instructions for submitting a paper, poster or demo may

@ CALL FOR PAPERS: INTERNET RESEARCH 3.0: NET / WORK / THEORY (MAASTRICHT, THE NETHERLANDS)
============================================
prazo/plazo/deadline: 15/02/2002
OCT 13 -16, 2002
Maastricht, The Netherlands
http://www.aoir.org/2002
The Internet has become an integral, ubiquitous part of everyday life in many social domains and international contexts. Yet, most of the public attention on cyberspace remains fueled by utopian or dystopian visions, rather than being informed by the growing body of research on
the Internet as a complex fact of modern life.
Internet Research (IR) 3.0, an international and interdisciplinary conference, will feature a variety of perspectives on Internet research, in order to develop a better theoretical and pragmatic understanding of
the Internet. Building on the previous well-attended international conferences, the IR 3.0 will bring together prominent scholars, researchers, and practitioners from many disciplines, fields and countries for a program of presentations, panel discussions, and informal exchanges.
This year's theme is Net/Work/Theory. Contributors are called to reflect on how to theorize what we know about the Internet and on how to apply what we know theoretically in practice. The conference will be held for the first time in Europe, whose intellectual environments
have traditionally been a source of social and cultural theory.
IR 3.0 will be hosted by the International Institute of Infonomics in the beautiful city of Maastricht in the Netherlands. As the city in which one of the key treaties of the European Union was signed, Maastricht also symbolizes a changing Europe in a changing
international setting. The conference will provide opportunities to network, learn from other researchers, hear from leading players in Internet development, and enjoy the "art of fine living" of Maastricht, in the south of the Netherlands.
The Association of Internet Researchers invites paper, presentation, and panel proposals from AoIR members and non-members on topics that address social, cultural, political, economic, and aesthetic aspects of
the Internet. We welcome interdisciplinary submissions as well as submissions from any discipline. Panel presentations that establish connections across
disciplines, institutions, and/or continents are especially
encouraged.
We also seek presentations that will make creative use of Internet technologies and techniques.
SUGGESTED TOPICS:
Theoretical and Methodological approaches to Internet Research
Internet Access, Use and Effects
Psychology and the Internet
Individuals, Groups, and Communities Online
Privacy, Surveillance, and Security on the Internet
Internet Policy, Ethics, Law, and Politics

@ INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTERS IN EDUCATION (ICCE 2002) AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND
============================================
prazo/plazo/deadline: 05/04/2002
3-6 December 2002
http://icce2002.massey.ac.nz
** Organised by AACE-APC
** Sponsored by
College of Business, Massey University, New Zealand
The International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE) series aims to foster the creation and dissemination of knowledge about the use of information technology in education throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Since 1995 the ICCE series has been organized by the Asia-Pacific Chapter of AACE (Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education). Subsequent ICCEs have been held in different Asian countries - Singapore (1995), Malaysia (1997, held annually ever
since), China (1998), Japan (1999), Taiwan (2000) and Korea (2001). ICCE 2002 will be held in Auckland, New
Zealand.
Through ICCE 2002, New Zealand hopes to contribute enormously to the valuable experience of the ICCEs and hence to reinforce all the efforts to collaborate for the successful building of the new paradigm of education in the information society. Every effort will be made to make
this a truly professional worldwide conference providing opportunities for discussion and dissemination of pertinent information in computers and education internationally. We invite you to ICCE 2002 New Zealand
where you can view the 21st century through sharing ideas and prospects.
** Conference theme
"Learning communities on the Internet - Pedagogy in implementation"
Some years ago there was a movement in education towards learning alongside peers. The recent increase in accessibility to networks, whether global or local, has provided an enormous impetus to practice and research in which learners study and work together. However, many questions on the effectiveness and efficiency of such learning environments remain unanswered or at least have little empirical or theoretical evidence to provide beyond intuitive responses:
- learners naturally have many misconceptions; would peer learning simply spread such misconceptions?
- learning is personal; why should a colearner give better
help than a professional tutor?
- Internet resources are general; don't learners need
resources designed to meet their specific needs?
- learners' culture leads them to expect to be taught; why should they have to work more?
- tutors' culture leads them to expect to teach; why should they change that role?
- and many more....
ICCE 2002 invites submissions with a good theoretical base or formalism that present new, yet unpublished, solid achievements based on experiments, that come to answer concretely one or more of the questions
above or can point to possible answers. Survey papers are also accepted, if they are well documented, make a contribution to the field, and reveal new aspects and perspectives, as well as future directions.
** Topics of Interest
The topics of interest related to the conference theme
include but are not limited to:
* Agents technology
* Application of instructional design theories
* Architecture of learning technology systems
