Our focus for the month of July is DELLBRUGGE and DE MOLL. We proudly present their work:
"How do you feel ?"
http://dian-network.com/navigation.html
"How do you feel" is the barometer of the world wide mood. It does not only measure the collective mood but produces it. Each entry is registered. A program checks the amount of positive and negative inputs and calculates the global feeling of the day as well as the emotional
curve of the year. Listen to your heart and let your feelings flow!
DIAN - Digital Interactive Artists' Network - is a network for artists who are seriously involved in using Internet technology in the domain of contemporary art. We are deeply interested in artists working in this field.

Attendees of the recent International Market for Independent and Local Broadcasters conference in Switzerland had the opportunity to view a new documentary on the growth of digital technologies in Africa. Afro@digital,directed by Balufu Bakupa-Kanyinda of the Congo and produced by UNESCO, highlights how digital technology has become a daily reality for an
increasing number of African citizens. While Africa in general has laggedbehind other continents in terms of the dispersion of digital technologies, the statistics do not reflect the creativity and ingenuity of Africans when
given access to tools such as the Internet and digital video. "Africans have an enormous capacity to use new information technologies when they have access to them," explained Bakupa-Kanyinda. "In certain towns in Senegal and the Congo, increasing numbers are connecting to internet using a laptop computer with a mobile phone. While there is certainly a gap in Africa
between available infrastructures and new information technology, I am certain this is going to change."

Two exhibitions are on view: Exhibition 14 is a bilingual collection of stories from a workshop I led last summer at a conference in Mexico on Memory, Atrocity, and Resistance. Exhibition 15 contains 30 submissions
submitted from throughout the world during 2001. The searchable archive now contains over 2,500 family photographs donated by hundreds of people. 200 + stories conveying the psychological, emotional,
funny, and often disturbing nature of photographs are posted throughout the site. Tools are given to submit your photos and/or stories. If you haven't visited Collected Visions in awhile, many new images and stories have been posted. If you have never explored the site, I invite you to discover the many images that have already been

The online human rights and sustainable development network, has launched OneWorld Radio <www.oneworld.net/radio>, a new portal offering services and features for broadcasters and NGOs.
OneWorld Radio aims to harness the power of both old and new media to promote sustainable development and human rights with a focus of promoting the free exchange of programmes with development-related content between radio stations across the globe.
The portal goes live with a wide range of radio stations and major broadcast network partners including AMARC, Farm Radio Network, Somali Radio Network, Refugee Radio Network and UN Radio. Member organisations
already include UNICEF, Unesco, Radio for Development, Amnesty International, WACC, Search for a Common Ground, Anti-Slavery International, Plan International and over 250 others.
The core of OneWorld Radio is an audio exchange database to which broadcasters can upload their programmes and audio clips. This content is available for online listening and for other OneWorld Radio members
to download and use for re-broadcast. Audio is searchable by 80 topics - covering civil society, health, human rights, democracy and sustainable development - by any language, and also by geographical area.
"Globally, radio remains the most important media for development, democracy and community-building particularly for marginalised and disenfranchised communities across the world," says Jackie Davies,
OneWorld Radio manager. "If the Internet is to be a communications tool that is of benefit to all, its convergence and interplay with radio is a key that must be unlocked. OneWorld Radio is about promoting this agenda and providing a platform for civil society and the media to use, and learn more about, radio and Internet for sustainable development."
OneWorld Radio is also a gateway to a wide range of other radio databases, providing links to broadcaster networks and to other radio exchange projects. This provides members with centralized access to the
rich seam of programming and support that is available internationally.
Community building is a central aspect of OneWorld Radio. The portal provides audio providers, from journalists and producers to NGOs and radio stations, with a place to meet together online to share information and to network with one another. A comprehensive database of audio providers is also being developed; with information about areas of interest, target audiences and joint venture possibilities.
A number of information services also feature on OneWorld Radio such as sector news covering current developments in the 'radio for change' sector, a resources section for information about funding and
conferences, a support centre for online training on online audio and a monthly email newsletter.
To subscribe to the OneWorld Radio monthly email newsletter send an email to: radio@... with 'subscribe newsletter' in the body of the message.

monthly news on what we do monthly
&
monthly news on what other people do
(that has something to do with what we do)
what we do is this:
Each monthly issue focuses on the work of a particular artist or group of artists, and proposes not only REFLECTIONS on this work but also CREATIONS around it. (For we are not the kind of people who let things stand as they are. We are the kind of people who prefer to do something about things.)
coming soon (and first):
august 2002: horizon one: write
the literary book as digital form
september 2002: horizon two: mimic
imitators of life: robots, automata and cyborgs
This issue discusses and presents excerpts from many beautiful failures in interactive literature: Douglas Cooper's Delirium, the first novel ever serialized on the Internet; Geoff Ryman's 253, a hypertext novel in the form of a London tube train wreck; Alan Lightman's Einstein's Dreams, a time machine for Web and stage; Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine, a collage zoo. Repeat after us: "The book is dead. Long live the book." A brand new interactive proves it: A flattened book that has become unreadable decides to talk back instead! This issue proposes various encounters with creatures not born of woman! In our new Transference column, scientists attempt to prove that we are machines waiting to be imitated; Sentient Circuitry puts for the first time in the same place YOUR FLESHLY SELF and the robots of Ken Rinaldo, Reva Stone, Bill Vorn and Norman White; American Automata conveys to you a phantasmagoria of never-existent artificial beings - stills for a B movie that were lost before it could be made; FURTHER MYSTERIES ENSUE, AND MUCH INTERACTION!

If you subscribe, we will send you:
monthly news on what we do monthly
&
monthly news on what other people do
(that has something to do with what we do)
what we do is this:
SUBSCRIBE and we will love you back.
