Rules
The Romanian Amateur Radio Federation (FRR) has the honour to invite
the radio amateurs all over the world to participate in the
International Short Wave Championship of Romania (YO DX HF Contest)
which is held on the last weekend of August every year.
I. Objective
The objective of the contest is to establish as many contacts as
possible between radio amateurs around the world and radio amateurs in
Romania.
II. Contest period
Last weekend of August, 24 hours.
Saturday Aug 27, 12:00 UTC - Sunday Aug 28, 12:00 UTC
III. Bands and modes
80, 40, 20, 15, 10m, according to IARU band plan for each country, CW
and Phone.
Contacts on the segments of band reserved for DX traffic are not
allowed.
IV. Categories for the stations outside Romania
Cat. A - single operator single band (SOSB10, SOSB15, SOSB20, SOSB40,
SOSB80)
Cat. B - single operator multi band (SOMB)
Cat. C - multi operator multi band (no more than two operators) (MOMB)
V. Contest call
CQ TEST YO (CW) or CQ CONTEST YO (phone)
VI. Exchange
YO stations send: RS(T) + Romanian county abbreviation (two letter
code)
Non-YO stations send: RS(T) + serial number (starting with 001)
VII. Score
QSO with a YO station - 8p
QSO with a non-YO station outside own continent - 4p
QSO with a non-YO station inside own continent - 2p
QSO with a station inside own country - 1 p
VIII. Multiplier
Per band, each different DXCC country plus each different YO county (no
matter the mode).
YO does not count as DXCC country multiplier.
YO counties:
YO2 = AR CS HD TM
YO3 = BU IF
YO4 = BR CT GL TL VN
YO5 = AB BH BN CJ MM SJ SM
YO6 = BV CV HR MS SB
YO7 = AG DJ GJ MH OT VL
YO8 = BC BT IS NT SV VS
YO9 = BZ CL DB GR IL PH TR
IX. Final score
The final score is the result of the total QSO points multiplied by the
sum of multipliers.
X. Special rules
The following special rules apply:
• Only one trasmitter is allowed at one time (one signal on the
band).
• The minimum time to call CQ on a band is 10 minutes. A quick band
change in order to work a new multiplier is allowed - it is OK to
work one station and return to the main band.
• Only one QSO is allowed with the same station on the same band
(no matter traffic mode), i.e max. 5 QSOs with the same station
in the contest.
• Cross mode mode QSOs are not allowed.
• Only terrestrial contacts are valid.
• When band or mode changes, serial number sent is progressive.
• The use of DX spotting nets is allowed in all categories and
encouraged
XI. Penalties
Penalties apply for QSO errors (broken calls, bad exchanges) and QSOs
which do not appear in correspondents log.
Two times the QSO points for such QSOs will be deducted.
10% or more bad contacts or violation of contest rules shall result in
dropping the participant from the classification.
XII. Disqualification
Violation of contest rules, unsportsmanlike conduct or taking credit
for excessive unverifiable QSOs will be deemed sufficient cause for
disqualification.
All decisions of the contest committee are final.
XIII. Log instructions
Electronic log submission via e-mail is highly recommended. Cabrillo
logs are recommended but a plain-text ASCII log, in chronological
order, could be also accepted. In this case a plain-text ASCII summary
sheet must be included.
The e-mail containing the log will be automatically acknowledged by the
server and entrants will be informed about process of log-checking.
The paper logs must be written for each band and should contain the
following data:
Date | Time UTC | Call | RST Tx | Code Tx | RST Rx | Code Rx |
Multiplier | Points
Separate files for each band.
A summary sheet including used callsign, category, all relevant data
needed to calculate final score, description of equipment, power
output, full name and address in block capitals and signed statement
that all contest rules and regulations for amateur radio in the country
of operation have been observed must accompany each log.
If no category (A, B or C) was specified, the station will be entered
automatically in C category.
All log entries must be postmarked no later than 30 days after the
contest.
XIV. Mailing address
All written logs should be mailed to the following address:

XV. Certificates
Special certificates will be awarded to the top scorers in each
operating category in every participating country. Plaques will be

+ SILENT  KEY +  The team  on Culatra  Island (EU-145)  [425DXN 735]  started
pre-contest activity on  28 July.  They planned  to participate  in the  IOTA
Contest as CT6C; however,  in the UTC  morning of 29  July the operation  was
cancelled owing to the sudden and untimely death of Sam Pimenta, CT1EEN,  who
was expected to  be part of  the team. Sam  was very well  known in the  IOTA
circle; he operated from  various Portuguese IOTA  groups under his  callsign
and as IOTA Contest team member (CQ2P in 1998  and CT6B in 2003), in 1999  he
participated in the VK9RS  operation (OC-230) and  also operated as  VK6EEN/P
(OC-199 and OC-183), in 2003 he was one of the ZW8M (SA-042) team members. We
will miss his unmistakable voice in the pile-ups.

Championship in Macedonia.  Many of the competitors are from eastern
Europe, where Morse code is taken very seriously.  The complete

Bravo!! otro más que se suma.

Funciona como el CT si en el archivo de configuración "logcfg.dat"
prendés la bandera "CTCOMPATIBLE".

Sino, por defecto, funciona como el TR-Log, es decir todo con <ENTER>
dependiendo si estás en modo CQ o S&P.

Amigo Alberto,
Como veo que en este evento sólo pueden participar Argentina y paises
limitrofes, me gustaría saber, por si puedo estar en radio en esas horas y
si acompaña la propagación, si es posible participar aunque sólo sea como
control desde España.

Gracias anticipadas por la inforamción y como habrás visto pues yo acabo de
aportar mi pequeño granito para ver si se puede hacer posible el que se

  Just try and have fun

The first few hours were VERY depressing.  I began to think I would never have a
QSO that was outside the USA!

But after several hours the bands opened a bit and I got into Europe from the
west coast with my QRP signal on 15 and 20.  I ended up with 22% of my Qs in
Europe.

Even though this is an "everyone works everyone" contest, 40% of my Qs were
South America, compared to the usual 5% or so!

I expected to have 10 or 15 Qs outside the USA on 40 meters in this contest, but
never got one!  The band seemed dead here overnight, and by 1 AM I finally went
to sleep for a few hours.

I like the 24 hour aspect of this contest as a pleasant variant from most DX
contests.

I used CQ WWDX contest on CT to log the contest.  It kept very nice track of my
mults and dupes.  I only had to alter some of the QSO points at the end.  It
looks like I could submit the CQ WWDX Cabrillo format for this contest with a
few minor corrections to the header, but I think I will stick to a paper log to
be sure my entry doesn't get messed up!

Respaldo completamente sus palabras sobre el "Morse Runner" es un programa muy
parecido al desapercido "pileup" que no sirve para Windows XP. Es un programa
magnífico para ponerse como decimos en Colombia : "filudos" (listos) para un
concurso.
Leyendo artículos de grandes concursistas del mundo, muchos utilizan este tipo
de programas antes de un concurso para empezar a "entrenar" el oído antes del
mismo.

Lo recomiendo ampliamente.

   Morse Runner es un programa para Windows que simula las condiciones

   manteniendo la misma metodologia que el producto original.

   Durante los ensayos hemos encontrado algunas dificultades y
   diferencias segun el tipo de PC utilizada, pero en general se
   comporta muy bien.

   De alli pueden descargar la última versión en un archivo ZIP
   que luego descomprimido ofrecera su instalacion en una carpeta del C -
   Archivos de programas.

   Puede ocurrir que se presente alguna dificultad con el sonido,
   dependiendo de la placa que tengan en su PC (no todo es compatibles
   aunque sea compatible), algo que ha experimentado LW2DX en su PC,
   pero que aqui ha funcionado sin problemas en dos de ellas corriendo
   Windows 98.

   Una vez que lo tengan en funcionamiento pueden ensayar empezando con
   una sola estacion llamando por vez, a una velocidad que les resulte
   comodo, etc y si les interesa pueden correr una hora el rubro
   competicion y luego enviar el script de su log a la
   página de la competencia del MR, siguiendo los pasos indicados.

   Yo hice un ensayo y alli estoy en la lista, también PY4FQ aparece
   mucho más arriba y no se si hay algun otro SA.
